“Strengthen Ivorian Cocoa Stakeholder Landscape Management Capacity to Foster Conservation”
Location of the project
This project is implemented in the Taï-Cavally region which is a key biodiversity hotspot for the country. The Taï National ¨Park (TNP) is the largest tropical primary forest under protection of the entire West African forest area. With an area of about 5,360 km2. the TNP and the N'Zo Wildlife Reserve represent more than 50% of the total area of West African forest areas placed under strict protection status
Purpose of the project
The project focuses its actions on threats occurring in the area by supporting the government and local communities. One main objective is the establishment and empowerment of a community Landscape Management Board. This community-led organization will serve as an effective platform for all stakeholders to participate in sustainable land-use planning and other landscape scale initiatives to protect the Taï forest.

Project activities
Creation of a representative Land Management Board, recognized by the district
Development of participatory land-use plan at the village level and integrated into wider Landscape Management Plan
Farmer’s training on climate smart, sustainable yield practices and biodiversity conservation friendly practices
Promotion of Public stakeholder outreach to increase support to public and private conservation efforts, with the local communities and cooperatives
Environmental education awareness meetings for community members
Establishment of shade trees nurseries for buffer zones and improvement of shade in cocoa farms
Establishment of a diversification pilot project
